Your plan manager should make life easier, not harder. If you are waiting weeks for answers, finding errors on statements or simply feel like a number, you are allowed to move. The NDIS lets participants change plan managers at any time, and the process is simpler than most people think.

This page explains how switching works, what to watch for and how ABility Centre makes the transition smooth from the first phone call.

Common Reasons People Change Plan Managers

Every situation is different, but these are the reasons we hear most often:

  • Slow responses to emails and phone calls
  • Providers complaining about late or missing payments
  • Statements that are confusing, late or inaccurate
  • Wanting a local team rather than a national call centre
  • Feeling rushed or not listened to

Your Right to Choose

Choice and control sit at the heart of the NDIS, and that includes choosing who manages your funding. You do not need a special reason to change, and you do not need to wait for a plan reassessment. If your current plan manager is not working for you, you can start the move today.

Before you start, check your current service agreement for any notice period. Most agreements ask for a short period of written notice, and knowing the date helps us plan a clean handover.

How Switching Works, Step by Step

First, talk with us. We will explain how we work, answer your questions and send you our service agreement. Next, let your current plan manager know you are leaving. Then tell the NDIS about the change, either through your my NDIS contact or by calling the NDIA on 1800 800 110. Once the NDIS updates your plan, we become your plan manager and can start processing claims.

The final step is letting your providers know where to send future invoices. We give you a simple message you can forward to each of them.

What Happens to Outstanding Invoices

This is the part people worry about most, and it is easy to manage with good communication. Once the change is made, claims submitted by your previous plan manager will no longer be accepted by the NDIS, even for supports delivered while they were managing your plan. Your new plan manager can claim for those earlier supports instead.

That means any unpaid invoices should be passed to us. We will ask your previous plan manager to forward anything outstanding, and we will follow up with providers so nobody is left waiting.

What We Need From You to Switch

Switching goes fastest when we have a few details ready. Before your first conversation with us, try to have:

  • Your NDIS number and a copy of your current plan
  • The name of your current plan manager and their contact details
  • A list of the providers you use regularly
  • Any invoices you know are still waiting to be paid

Your First Statement After Switching

Your first monthly statement with ABility Centre will show your balances as they stand when we take over, along with every payment we have made since. If any invoices from before the switch were paid by us, you will see them clearly marked so there is no confusion about what was handled where.

Switching From Self or Agency Management

Not everyone who contacts us is moving from another plan manager. Some participants are self managed and tired of the paperwork. Others are agency managed and want the freedom to use unregistered providers. In both cases, plan management funding needs to be added to your plan first. You can ask the NDIA about this at any time, and we can help you prepare for that conversation.

Switching Plan Managers Across Adelaide

We regularly welcome participants who have moved from larger national providers. If you are looking to switch NDIS plan managers in Ingle Farm or elsewhere in the City of Salisbury, or you live just down the road from our office in Holden Hill, we can make the move simple.

Families in newer estates like Oakden often tell us they want a team that answers the phone and knows their name. That is exactly what we offer. Read more about our everyday NDIS plan management service.

Switching Plan Managers FAQs

Can I change plan managers in the middle of my plan?

Yes. You can change plan managers at any time. You do not need to wait for your plan to end or be reassessed.

Will my providers miss payments during the switch?

Not if the handover is managed well. We follow up outstanding invoices with your previous plan manager and providers so payments keep flowing.

Does switching cost me anything?

No. Plan management fees are paid from the plan management funding in your NDIS plan, not from your own pocket.

Do I need to tell the NDIS myself?

The NDIS needs to know about the change. You can tell them through your my NDIS contact or by calling 1800 800 110, and we will help you prepare for that conversation.
